FOOD INGATHERING – November 26.  The Pantry needs rice, pasta sauce, and oatmeal in particular.  Thank you for your support of the Pantry

 

THANKSGIVING DAY:  All are invited to April Baily’s home for Thanksgiving Day dinner.  April will provide a ham, wine, tea and coffee; attendees are asked to bring a side dish and anything else they might like to drink.  Dinner will be at 1 PM.  Let April know if you can attend.

 

THE FEAST OF ST. ANDREW’S: The parish is invited to gather for a celebration of our patron saint’s feast day on November 30, @ 5:30 PM in Keller Hall.  It’s a pot luck dinner, and of course we will eat well!  Drinks will be provided.  Not a fundraiser, not a worship service – just a chance to celebrate the love we have for one another.

 

LASAGNA with THE MEN’S GROUP! Save the Date… and get your reserved tickets for a Lasagna Dinner set for Saturday, December 2, 4 PM. Tickets are available in the church office and takeout dinners will be available.

 

DOK QUIET DAY – The Daughters of the King will sponsor a Quiet Day on Saturday, December 16, 9 AM to 2 PM.  Jos Tharakin+ will celebrate a Eucharist and lead participants in a series of meditations and opportunities to reflect on Advent.  Everyone is invited to participate; feel free to bring your friends and neighbors as well.  A soup and bread luncheon will be provided.

STEWARDSHIP: The number of pledge cards handed or sent out numbered 74.  45 are returned.  29 are Outstanding.

To set a budget and to begin the work of the search committee we need everyone to respond.  If you are one of the 29, please respond no later than this Sunday, November 12.

BOOK DISCUSSION GROUP will read Madeleine L’Engle’s A Wrinkle in Time for November; Eric Larsen’s Isaac’s Storm: A Man, A Time, and the Deadliest Hurricane in History in December; Desert Queen: The Extraordinary Life of Gertrude Bell by Janet Wallach for January, and The Book of Joy: Lasting Happiness in a Changing World by Nobel Peace Prize Laureates Tenzin Gyatso, the 14th Dalai Lama, and Archbishop Desmond Tutu in February.  Amazing lineup!

SWEETS FOR THE PANTRY – TODAY –- “Sweet” sale Discretionary Fund effort to benefit St. Andrew’s Pantry. Plan to participate, donate and nibble – after 8:30 service and again after 10:30.

 

FOOD INGATHERING – On Sunday, October 29, food will be collected for the food pantry.  We have a need for oatmeal and soup.  Also, the pantry would also appreciate any personal items (shampoo, conditioner, soap, etc.) that can be donated.  Thank you. “What you do for the least of these…”

 

STEWARDSHIP:  All parishioners have received an invitation to prayerfully consider our promises and our pledges, and an envelope which includes our own pledge card and history, and a return envelope. On November 5, we’ll combine our celebration of All Saints with the blessing of our pledges/promises in a special service.

Their mission is to provide shoeboxes filled with small toys, hygiene items, and school supplies to reach out to children in their own communities with the Good News of Jesus Christ. Gifts are sent outside the United States to children affected by war, poverty, natural disaster, famine, and disease; and to children living on Native American reservations in the U.S. Get a shoebox to fill in the Narthex and bring it back by November 13 to bring some Christmas joy to a child who might otherwise have little or none.

FLOWERS FOR THE ALTAR – It’s time to sign up for providing flowers for the altar for 2018.  The cost will be $38.  Gail Alter will be in the Narthex between services ready to get your name in place.

 

DISCRETIONARY FUND COLLECTION – Will be October 22.  This fund helps us help those in need, through cash for utilities and rent, and groceries.

Leadership News! – Ms. Linda Hipes has agreed to chair the Search Committee.  She was born and raised in NW Arkansas and has been married for almost 43 years to Blaine. They have 2 sons, Barrett and his partner Anthony (NYC), and Crosby, daughter-in-law Molly and granddaughter Lucy (WV).  She was raised Baptist.  After Blaine retired to Lake Norfork she looked for a new church home. She’d known Father Jim from before. She joined St. Andrews, was confirmed in August of 2011. She is an accountant, and works from home for an oil company (in Houston). She has completed the EfM Program, served on the Vestry for 3 years, one year as Senior Warden.  She is a Lector and Intercessor and a member of the choir

BRIDGE BASH , Sept 23 – People who signed up to pack food and would like to carpool to the Bridge Bash should meet at the church at 10:00 so everyone will arrive in time to pack food at our 11:00 a.m. shift.

 

Donations will continue to be accepted by St. Andrew’s.  Please turn your check and completed form (found on the table in the Narthex) to the church office.  Thank you for your support of St. Andrew’s Food Pantry.
